Microscopy for the Ukraine
Donation of a ZEISS electron microscope to the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine
As part of our social commitment to science and education, we have donated a used ZEISS EVO scanning electron microscope equipped with an X-MAX EDX detector to the Karpenko Physico-Mechanical Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
The system was dispatched from Switzerland to the institute in Lviv in spring 2025. After arriving on site, the microscope was installed and calibrated remotely via video conference by one of our service technicians. Thanks to the close cooperation with the local team, the device was able to go into operation smoothly and is now fully integrated into the newly established Centre for Electron Microscopy and X-Ray Microanalysis.
In future, the electron microscope will be used to analyse the microstructure of materials - particularly in the fields of materials science, corrosion research and materials diagnostics.
Despite the current challenges, the institute continues its scientific work and provides researchers from academia and universities as well as students and doctoral candidates with access to modern analytics. Our donation supports this work in a concrete and sustainable way - by maintaining scientific infrastructure and transferring technical expertise.
We are proud to make a small contribution to maintaining and developing scientific excellence in Ukraine.
